How to set up a tent
If you havent' set up a tent before, it's important that you do it once or twice at home in your garden or the like, before trying to set up your tent in the wild. This will make you much better prepared and it's better to practice in a familiar place before doing it in a wet and windy forest. Also, if there are any tent parts missing, it's better that you discover it before you go, instead of when it is too late.
Read the instructions when setting up a tent. Some tents are set up by pitching the fly sheet first, and some are set up by pitching the inner tent first. The advantage of the first method is that it can be done without the worry of the inner tent getting rain on it if its raining. The advantage of doing it the other way round is that it's easier to set up, and also quicker with no laying on the floor inside when setting up the tent. If it's raining, though, it may already be wet when the flysheet is about to be put in place, so that's a disadvantage.
Most tent should be put up by two people to make it easier. Read the instructions and make sure all the poles are through the correct sleeves before securing them in the rings of the flysheet.
When setting up a tent, if your outer sheet is damp, you should try to separate the outer and inner and have them dry in a good spot. You want the inner tent to be dry all over. Also, when moving from campsite to campsite, it's important to ensure that the tent is as dry as possible, or mildew may damage it.
